Sober Forever

Updated: Aug 17, 2022

What comes first? Mental illness or addiction? The truth is, is that sometimes it's both. Sometimes we become addicted to substances or things because we are mentally unhealthy and most of the time we get mental illnesses from addiction. Either way, they both can be debilitating.

Here's the deal: You're brain has been programmed to automatically follow the path of cravings and urges to use especially when you have triggers. The key is to train or reprogram your brain to more adaptive ways of coping and eventually cut out the cravings and urges. So, how do we train our brain? We do this through various ways such as meditation, mindfulness, long-term sobriety, dealing with your trauma, changing core beliefs about yourself, etc. There are many avenues to reprogramming the brain. The good news is that you can pick and choose what will work for you.

Basically, addiction is a type of mental illness. It can be genetic and/or it can develop over time. Changing our brains is the way to becoming sober. Staying sober forever won't be easy, but it will be worth it! Having your life back is rewarding and you will be amazed at what you can do! The sky is the limit! Here's a book to help you get started.
